The Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Melissa Brummel as the new Associate Principal at Marshalltown High School, effective July 1, 2024.
Brummel brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the district. With a background in special education and behavior management, she has served as a Special Education Teacher at Four Oaks, a Behavior Management Coordinator in MCSD’s Therapeutic Classroom, and most recently as the Interim Principal at Rogers Elementary School. She holds a Master’s degree in Special Education and a Master’s in Education Leadership from Iowa State University, where she participated in the Transformative School Leadership program.
"Stepping into the role of Associate Principal at Marshalltown High School is a true honor," Brummel said. "I am enthusiastic about contributing to an environment where every student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Together, we can achieve great things.”
“We are thrilled to have Melissa Brummel as a permanent member of our administrative team as one of the MHS Associate Principals for 2024-2025,” said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “Melissa helped us out as the interim principal at Rogers Elementary School this past school year. Her knowledge and experience should serve her well.”
In line with Marshalltown CSD's initiative to Embrace The Lead, Brummel is committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation.
"I am embracing the lead by championing a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation,” said Brummel. “Drawing on my background in behavior management and special education, I am dedicated to implementing effective strategies that enhance both student achievement and well-being. My focus is on building strong, supportive relationships with staff, students, and the community to foster an environment where everyone can succeed. Together, we will strive for excellence and make a lasting positive impact on our school district."
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Brummel is also actively involved with her family and community. She enjoys boating on the Mississippi River in Guttenberg, reading, and attending her children's sporting events. As a foster and adoptive family, she and her husband have three biological children and four adopted children.
