Thank you for visiting the JC Hoglan Elementary School website. JC Hoglan School is located at 2306 S. 3rd Ave. in Marshalltown, Iowa.  Marshalltown is located in the middle of the state. It is a diverse community made up of people from various ethnic backgrounds and races. It offers a blend of rural and urban living. JC Hoglan is one of 6 elementary schools serving students in preschool through 4th grade. 

The JC Hoglan Elementary School staff consists of around 55 caring, dedicated professional staff members. Our strong school culture is felt from the moment you walk into the school. We strive to create an environment where all students, families and guests are greeted positively with a smile. We give every student a “Champion” at school through our Bobcat Buddy Program. Each school adult is assigned 8-10 students across all grades. They connect weekly with a  high-five, a note, hug or hello.  Each month, we do a special activity that is intentionally planned to build community within our school. 

JC Hoglan offers the following:  AM and PM preschool, full-day transitional kindergarten, three sections of kindergarten, three sections of 1st grade, three sections of 2nd grade, two sections of 3rd grade and two sections of 4th grade.  In addition, we have three EL teachers, three Title I Reading Teachers, and an Extending Learning Teacher (XLP).  We run on a six day cycle and offer art and music once per cycle, physical education and media/library twice per cycle. We also have a full time school counselor and school resource specialist to support social emotional learning and connecting families with outside resources. 

JC Hoglan School’s parent group, Team Hoglan, meets monthly.  The goal of this group is to collaborate and fundraise to support fun activities for students.  Team Hoglan has supported author visits, family STEAM night, field day, playground improvement projects to name a few.

Student achievement is a point of pride for JC Hoglan Elementary School. We continue to show improvements on state assessments and are ranked as “Commendable” for two consecutive years on the Iowa School Performance Profile. While we are pleased with these results, we continue to reflect, refine, and learn as we know our work is not done.
